How to combine PDF files without uploading them
Open Merge PDF, add two or more PDFs, drag them into the order you want and press Merge. Your combined file downloads as merged.pdf. The pages are joined inside your browser, so none of your files are uploaded.
Open Merge PDFStep by step
- Open Merge PDF. Go to the Merge PDF page on PlumPDF. No account and nothing to install.
- Add your PDFs. Drop at least two PDFs on the box, or click to browse. Each one shows its page count.
- Put them in order. Drag files up and down, or use the arrow buttons. Remove any you do not want.
- Merge and download. Press Merge. Your combined file downloads as merged.pdf.
Why not upload files to combine them?
The files people combine are often a set that belongs together: an application with its supporting papers, invoices for an accountant, scans of a contract and its annexes. Together they can say a lot about you. Joining them on your own device means the whole bundle stays with you, and you do not wait for it to travel to a server and back.
What is kept, and what is not?
Pages are copied directly, so text stays text, images keep their original data, and page sizes and rotation are preserved. Pages from different files can have different sizes in the same result.
Things that belong to a whole document do not travel with the pages. Bookmarks, the title and other metadata, tagged structure for screen readers, and interactive form fields from the originals are dropped. If forms matter, flatten or finish them before merging.
How do I get a tidy result?
A little preparation saves fixing things afterwards:
- Check the order in the list before you press Merge, since the first file's pages come first.
- To use only some pages of a file, pull them out first with Extract PDF pages.
- To add page numbers across the whole document, merge first, then number the result.
- Keep the originals until you have looked through the merged file.
What are the limits?
You can merge 2 to 50 files at a time, up to 100 MB each. Everything is held in your device's memory, so very large totals can be slow on a phone. For a bigger job, merge in two rounds and then merge the two results.
Questions
Can I merge a password-protected PDF?
Remove its password first with Unlock PDF, which needs the password, then add the unlocked copy.
Will the merged file be larger than the originals combined?
About the same. The pages are copied as they are, not saved again as pictures, so quality stays the same.
Can I merge images with PDFs?
Not in this tool. Turn the images into a PDF first with JPG to PDF, then merge.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in any modern mobile browser. Large files take longer there than on a laptop.
Are page rotations kept?
Yes. If a page in one of the source files is set to display rotated, it stays rotated in the merged file. Pages keep their own sizes too, so a landscape page between portrait pages stays landscape, and nothing is stretched or cropped to match its neighbours.
