Compress an image to 200KB, and keep it looking good
At 200KB you can keep a photo or scan looking good and still pass a typical form limit. This tool finds the highest JPG quality that stays under 200KB, so you lose only as much detail as you must. It works in your browser and your files stay on your device.

A comfortable limit for photos
Two hundred kilobytes is a middle ground. It is small enough for most upload boxes and email, and large enough that a well-compressed photo still looks natural. The tool uses an optimised JPEG encoder, which gets more picture out of each kilobyte than the basic JPEG saving in many phones and apps.
It searches for the highest quality that stays under 200KB. If a very large photo cannot fit by quality alone, the pixel dimensions are lowered in steps until it does. The final size, pixel size and quality are shown for each file.
If you need an exact width and height, enter them and the photo is cropped from the centre and resized first. Metadata such as GPS location is dropped from the result.
Questions about Compress Image to 200KB
How good will the image look at 200KB?
Very good for most photos. 200KB leaves enough data for a clear picture at normal screen size, and the tool picks the highest quality that fits. A large detailed photo may still be reduced in pixels.
Why did my image come out smaller than 200KB?
The tool aims for the best quality under the limit, not exactly the limit. Simple images, such as a plain scan, reach the top quality setting before they fill 200KB. If your form also needs a minimum, set the minimum option and the tool will push the file above it.
Can I use it to make photos small enough for email?
Yes. A phone photo of several MB drops to around 200KB, which is easy to attach and quick to send. Add up to 50 photos and download them all as a zip.
Will my picture be rotated the right way?
Photos that were stored sideways with a rotation tag are shown upright in the result. The tag itself is not kept, since metadata is removed, so the file displays correctly everywhere.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the encoder has loaded on your first visit. After that you can compress photos without a connection, and nothing is uploaded either way.
What if the form needs another size?
Use the size switcher on the page to change the target. For a form that wants a photo and a signature with different limits, try the Photo and Signature Resizer.
