Transparency, colour and size
PNG supports an alpha channel, which stores how see-through each pixel is. PlumPDF passes that channel into the PDF as a soft mask, so logos and cut-out graphics keep their shape. Whatever sits behind the image on the page, usually white paper, shows through the clear parts.
PNG files can be large because they do not discard detail. A full-screen screenshot of 3 to 5 MB will add about that much to the PDF. If size matters more than perfection, a JPG of the same picture will be much smaller; use JPG to PDF for that.
Very large PNG images are limited to 40 megapixels. If you hit the limit, scale the image down first in any image editor.
Questions about PNG to PDF
Can I convert multiple PNG files into one PDF?
Yes. Add up to 50 files, keep "One PDF with all images" selected, and each image becomes one page in the order shown in the list. Choose "One PDF per image" if you want separate files, which you can download together as a zip.
Is PNG to PDF lossless?
Yes. PNG is a lossless format and PlumPDF embeds the pixel data into the PDF without lossy compression, so screenshots, diagrams and scans of text stay crisp when you zoom in.
What happens to transparent PNG backgrounds?
Transparency is kept in the PDF, so the page colour shows through. Most PDF viewers show a white page. If a particular PNG cannot be embedded directly, PlumPDF redraws it onto a white background instead, and the transparent areas turn white.
Can I convert a screenshot without saving it first?
Yes. Copy the screenshot to your clipboard, open this page, and press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac). The image is added to the list as if you had chosen a file.
What page size will my PDF have?
By default the page matches the image, so nothing is cropped or padded. If you pick A4 or US Letter, the image is centred and scaled down to fit, never enlarged past its natural size at 96 DPI. A4 and Letter also unlock orientation and margin options.
Is it safe to convert PNG files to PDF online?
Yes, in the sense that matters here: PlumPDF never receives your files. The conversion runs inside your browser tab, so nothing is uploaded, and closing the tab discards everything. You can check this by turning off your internet connection after the page loads and converting anyway.
