How to use Remove Background from Photo
Open your photo
Choose one photo of a person. JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC from a phone all work. The first time, the tool downloads its model once, which takes a moment.
Pick the background
Choose Transparent, White, Light blue or a colour of your own. The preview updates as you choose and shows a checkerboard when the background is transparent. Try Soft edges for hair, or Firm for a sharper outline.
Save the result
Press Save. A transparent background is saved as a PNG, and a coloured one as a JPG. Look at the edges around hair and shoulders before you use it.
A background remover made for people
The tool uses an on-device person segmentation model. It tells hair, face, skin and clothes from the background, then removes what is behind the person. The result is a transparent PNG, or a JPG on white, light blue or a colour you choose.
The model is about 16 MB and downloads once from PlumPDF's own site. Your browser keeps it, so the tool works offline afterwards. The photo itself never leaves your device.
It is meant for portraits, profile pictures and ID or passport style photos, not objects. Fine hair, glasses or a busy background may need a second try, or the other edge setting. For an application photo, add a white or light blue background here, then set the size.
Questions about Remove Background from Photo
Is my photo sent anywhere?
No. The model runs on your device, so the photo never leaves it. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no account to create.
What is the model download?
The first time you use the tool, your browser downloads a model of about 16 MB from PlumPDF's own site. The browser then keeps it, so later visits start faster and the tool keeps working offline.
Does it work on objects or product photos?
No. It is made for people: portraits, profile pictures, and ID and passport style photos. It looks for a person, so it is not meant for objects such as product photos.
The edges look wrong. What can I do?
Fine hair, glasses and busy backgrounds can be hard to separate. Switch between Soft and Firm edges, as Soft is usually better for hair. A photo taken against a plainer background, with even light, often works better on a second try.
Which background should I choose for an application photo?
Check what the form asks for, since many ask for white or light blue. Save the result here, then use Passport Size Photo Maker to set the size and print layout.
When do I get a PNG and when a JPG?
A transparent background needs a PNG, because a JPG cannot hold transparency. When you pick a colour, the photo is saved as a JPG, which is smaller and accepted almost everywhere.
