How a sheet becomes PDF pages

PlumPDF reads the workbook in your browser and lays each visible sheet out as a table on A4. Column widths come from the file, bold cells stay bold, merged cells are joined, and numbers are right-aligned. Dates and common number formats are shown as they appear in the sheet, and formulas show their saved result.

A sheet that fits is printed portrait. A wider one goes landscape and is shrunk to fit the width, down to a minimum size so the text stays readable. If it is still too wide, the columns continue on extra pages. The bold header row is repeated at the top of every page.

Hidden rows, columns and sheets are left out. Charts, pictures, colours, border styles and conditional formatting are not drawn. Text in scripts the standard PDF fonts cannot show is drawn as a picture, so it looks right but cannot be selected.

How do I convert an Excel file to PDF for free?

Add the .xlsx or .csv file above, choose one PDF or one per file, and press Convert to PDF. Each visible sheet becomes table pages on A4. It is free, and the file never leaves your device.

How are wide sheets handled?

The page is portrait when the sheet fits, and landscape when it is wide. The sheet is then shrunk to fit the page width, down to a minimum size. Beyond that, the remaining columns continue on extra pages so the text stays readable.

What is kept from the spreadsheet?

Gridlines, column widths from the file, bold cells, merged cells, right-aligned numbers, dates and common number formats (decimals, thousands separators, percent). Formulas show their saved result, and the bold header row repeats on each page. Hidden rows, columns and sheets are left out.

What is left out?

Charts, pictures, colours, border styles and conditional formatting are not included. Old .xls files are not supported: open them in a spreadsheet app and save as .xlsx first. A formula that was never calculated and saved shows as empty.

Does it work with Hindi and other scripts?

Yes. Text in scripts the standard PDF fonts cannot draw, such as Hindi or Tamil, is drawn as a picture of the words. It shows correctly, but that text cannot be selected or searched. Other text stays real, selectable text.

Is it safe to convert spreadsheets to PDF online?

Yes, in the sense that matters here: PlumPDF never receives your files. The conversion runs inside your browser tab, so nothing is uploaded, and closing the tab discards everything. You can check this by turning off your internet connection after the page loads and converting anyway.
