Sign a PDF without printing it

This tool puts your handwritten signature on a PDF, in your browser. Draw it, type your name in a handwriting style, or upload a photo of it, then drag it into place on any page and download the signed file. It is a visual signature, like signing a printout, not a certificate-based digital signature.

How to use Sign PDF

  1. Add the PDF

Drop the document you need to sign on the box.

  2. Create your signature

Draw it, type your name, or upload an image. It is added to the page you are viewing.

  3. Place it and download

Drag and resize it, add a date if you need one, then download the signed PDF.

What kind of signature this is

PlumPDF adds your signature as a picture drawn into the page: the same result as signing a printed copy and scanning it, without the printer. A drawn signature keeps the line you made. A typed one uses one of three handwriting fonts (Great Vibes, Dancing Script or Caveat). An uploaded photo has its white paper made transparent, so only the ink shows.

The picture becomes part of the page content. That makes it hard to lift out, but it is not tamper-proof: unlike a certificate-based digital signature, it does not prove who signed or show whether the document was changed later. Documents that need that kind of proof are signed with a signing certificate in a different kind of tool.

Everything else in the file is kept: text stays selectable and pages you do not sign are untouched. If the PDF already carries a digital signature, adding anything to it makes that signature report the file as changed.

Questions about Sign PDF

How do I sign a PDF without printing it?

Add the PDF above and draw your signature with a finger, stylus or mouse, or type your name. It appears on the page you are viewing. Drag it onto the signature line, use the corner handle to resize it, and press Download signed PDF.

Is this a legally valid electronic signature?

It is a simple electronic signature: a picture of your signature placed on the document. It is not a certificate-based digital signature, which proves who signed and shows whether the file was changed afterwards. Whether a simple signature is accepted depends on who you send it to and where you are, so for important contracts check what the other side requires.

Can I sign several pages, or several PDFs at once?

Several pages, yes: move to another page with the arrows or the page strip and place the signature again. Each signature you create stays in the panel, so you can add it to as many pages as you need. Several PDFs, no: you sign one document at a time, because a signature belongs in a particular place on a particular page, and that place differs from one document to the next. Your signatures stay in the panel only until you leave the page.

Can I add the date?

Yes. The date stamp is filled in with today's date, written like 17 Oct 2026, and you can change the text before adding it. It is placed and resized the same way as the signature.

Can I place the signature with the keyboard?

Yes. Choose Type to create it without drawing. Then tab to the placed signature and use the arrow keys to move it (hold Shift for bigger steps), plus and minus to resize it, and Delete to remove it. The buttons under the page do the same, which helps on touch screens.

Can the signature be removed from the signed file later?

It is drawn into the page itself, so a PDF reader cannot click and delete it the way it can a comment or a form field. Your original file is not changed, so to start again, sign the original once more.

Is my signature stored anywhere?

No. The signature is made and placed in your browser tab, held only in memory, and never uploaded or saved by PlumPDF. Close the tab and it is gone.
