How splitting works
Splitting copies pages from your PDF into new documents. Nothing is redrawn, so each output keeps the original text, images and page settings. The source file is not changed.
In "Every page" mode a 12-page PDF gives 12 files. In range mode every comma-separated range is its own file, so "1-3, 5" gives two files; if you want pages 1 to 3 and 5 together in one file, use Extract PDF pages. In chunk mode a 10-page PDF with chunks of 4 gives files of 4, 4 and 2 pages.
Outputs are named after the original, with the page range added, and bundled in a zip. A zip is built in your browser and keeps the original file intact.
Like our other organize tools, splitting does not carry document-level extras such as bookmarks or form fields into the new files.
Questions about Split PDF
How do I split a PDF into separate pages?
Choose "Every page" and press Split. You get one PDF per page, named with the page number, in a zip file.
How do I write custom page ranges?
Separate ranges with commas: "1-3, 5, 8-10" makes three PDFs, one with pages 1 to 3, one with page 5, and one with pages 8 to 10. Each range becomes its own file. Spaces do not matter. Pages outside the document, backwards ranges like 5-2 or stray characters are flagged with a message. To keep certain pages together in a single PDF instead, use Extract PDF pages.
Can I split into equal parts?
Yes. Choose "Every N pages" and enter a number N: you get a PDF for each N pages. The last file holds whatever is left over.
Does the PDF lose quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are, not redrawn. Text stays selectable, images keep their resolution, and links within a page keep working. The thumbnails you see while working are only previews.
Can I split several PDFs at once?
Yes. Add up to 50 PDFs and they are all split the same way, one after another. You get one zip with a folder per PDF, named after it. With custom ranges, a file that does not have those pages is listed and skipped, and the others are still split.
Can I use a password-protected PDF?
Not directly: PlumPDF asks you to remove the password first. If you know it, Unlock PDF saves an unlocked copy you can use here. To lock the result again, use Protect PDF.
Is it safe to split a PDF online?
With PlumPDF, your PDFs are never uploaded. They are opened and rewritten inside your browser tab on your device. Close the tab and nothing remains.
