Convert to PDF

SVG to PDF, drawn locally

This tool converts SVG files into a PDF in your browser. The SVG is rendered at high resolution and placed on the page as an image, so the PDF looks sharp but is not editable vector artwork.

How an SVG becomes a PDF page

An SVG is a description of shapes, not a grid of pixels, so it has no fixed resolution. PlumPDF asks the browser to draw it onto a canvas that is at least 2000 pixels on its longer side, using the SVG's own size or viewBox to keep the proportions. The canvas is saved as a PNG and placed on the page.

This gives sharp lines for logos and diagrams at screen and normal print sizes. It also means the PDF is a picture of the SVG. Colours, gradients and clipping appear as drawn, but you cannot select text or recolour shapes in the PDF.

Because the drawing is done by an image decoder, scripts inside the SVG do not run and external resources are not fetched. Transparent areas turn white.

If you need a true vector PDF, export from a drawing program such as Inkscape or Illustrator instead.

Questions about SVG to PDF

Does the PDF keep the SVG as vector graphics?

No. The SVG is rendered by your browser to a bitmap of at least 2000 pixels on its long side and stored as a PNG in the PDF. It looks sharp at normal zoom, but you cannot edit shapes or select text inside it afterwards.

What if my SVG has no width and height?

PlumPDF uses the viewBox to work out the shape, then renders it with the long side at 2000 pixels or more. If the file has neither a size nor a viewBox, the browser may not be able to draw it and the file will be rejected.

Will external fonts and linked images show up?

Not always. For safety, a browser draws an SVG used as an image in isolation: it will not load external files or web fonts. Text that depends on a font you have installed may fall back to a default font. Convert text to outlines in your drawing program for exact results.

Can I convert multiple SVG files into one PDF?

Yes. Add up to 50 files, keep "One PDF with all images" selected, and each image becomes one page in the order shown in the list. Choose "One PDF per image" if you want separate files, which you can download together as a zip.

What page size will my PDF have?

By default the page matches the image, so nothing is cropped or padded. If you pick A4 or US Letter, the image is centred and scaled down to fit, never enlarged past its natural size at 96 DPI. A4 and Letter also unlock orientation and margin options.

Is it safe to convert SVG files to PDF online?

Yes, in the sense that matters here: PlumPDF never receives your files. The conversion runs inside your browser tab, so nothing is uploaded, and closing the tab discards everything. You can check this by turning off your internet connection after the page loads and converting anyway.
