Organize PDF

Put several pages on one sheet

This tool lays out several pages of a PDF on each sheet, scaled to fit a grid: two slides side by side, four pages of notes on one A4, sixteen thumbnails for proofing. Pick how many per sheet and the paper size, and PlumPDF chooses the orientation that shows them biggest. It all happens in your browser.

Press Make, then download the new PDF, ready to print.

How the sheets are laid out

The sheet is divided into a grid, less the margin around the edge and the gap between pages. Each page is scaled to fit its cell without being stretched, and centred in it, so pages of different shapes still line up neatly.

Each original page is embedded once as a drawing (a PDF form XObject), which keeps text and vector graphics exactly as they were. Pages saved turned sideways are turned back the way a reader shows them.

The new PDF has only the sheets; links, bookmarks, comments and forms from the original are not copied. Keep the original file for reading on screen, and use the N-up copy for printing.

Questions about N-up PDF

How do I print several PDF pages on one sheet?

Add the PDF above, pick how many pages per sheet and the paper size, and press Make. You get a new PDF whose every page holds that many of the original pages; print it as normal.

Which orientation does it use?

With Best fit, PlumPDF tries the sheet both ways and picks the one where the pages come out largest: two portrait pages go side by side on a landscape sheet, four go on a portrait sheet. You can force portrait or landscape.

Does the text stay sharp?

Yes. The pages are placed as drawings, not as pictures, so text stays sharp at any zoom and can still be selected and searched.

What is not carried over?

Links, comments and form fields belong to the original pages and are not copied to the new sheets. The visible content of every page is.

Can I change the order on the sheet?

Yes: across then down (like reading) or down then across (like newspaper columns). To change the order of the pages themselves first, use Organize PDF.

Is it safe to do this online?

With PlumPDF the PDF never leaves your device. The new file is built in your browser tab.
