How to use Resize Image

  1. Add your images

Resizing with good quality

Shrinking an image means combining many pixels into fewer. Browsers do that with a small filter, which can make big reductions look jagged, so PlumPDF reduces large images in halving steps before the final size. Lines and text stay smooth even when a 6000 pixel photo becomes a 600 pixel thumbnail.

Photos taken on a phone are turned upright first, using their EXIF rotation tag, so the width and height you type are the ones you see. Transparency in PNG and WEBP is kept, unless you save as JPG.

The presets cover common needs: long sides of 1080, 1280, 1920 and 3840 pixels, and exact sizes for Instagram posts and stories, YouTube thumbnails, and Facebook, X and LinkedIn banners. As with every PlumPDF tool, the work happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Questions about Resize Image

How do I resize without distorting the image?

Keep "Keep the aspect ratio" ticked and enter only the width or the height; the other side follows. If you enter both, the image is fitted inside that box, so it is never stretched.

What do the social media presets do?

They resize to an exact size, such as 1080 by 1350 for an Instagram portrait post. With "Fill the size exactly" the image is scaled to cover the frame and the edges that do not fit are cropped evenly. "Fit inside" scales it to fit without cropping.

Can I make an image bigger?

Yes, with pixels or a percentage above 100. Enlarging cannot add detail, so the result looks softer. The long-side presets leave smaller images at their size.

Does resizing reduce file size?

Making an image smaller in pixels usually cuts the file size a lot: half the width and height is about a quarter of the pixels. Use Compress image afterwards for a further saving.

Which format are the resized images saved in?

The same format as each original by default: JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG, WEBP stays WEBP. GIF, BMP and SVG become PNG and HEIC becomes JPG, because browsers cannot write those formats. You can also choose a format for all of them.

Is it safe to convert and resize images online?

With PlumPDF the images never leave your device. The conversion runs inside your browser tab, nothing is uploaded, and closing the tab discards everything. You can check by turning off your internet connection after the page loads and converting anyway.
