How filling a form works
A fillable PDF stores its form fields as separate objects on top of the page: each one has a place, a kind and a value. When you open the form here, the tool finds every field and puts a matching input over it, so you fill the form where it is printed instead of in a separate list.
When you download, your answers are written into those fields. If you switch on Lock the answers so they cannot be changed, they are turned into part of the page, which suits a form that is finished. Left off, the form stays fillable, so you or someone else can open it in any PDF reader and change an answer later.
Read-only fields stay locked, and signature and push-button fields are left as they are. If an answer uses letters the form’s own font cannot show, such as Hindi or Chinese, it is kept and PDF readers draw it with their own fonts. A form like that is not locked, and the page tells you.
Questions about Fill PDF Form
How do I fill in a PDF form online?
Open the PDF above. Its pages appear with an input over every fillable field. Click a box to type in it, tick a tick box, pick a radio button or choose from a drop-down or list, then press Download filled PDF.
What if my PDF has no fillable fields?
Then the page tells you so, because there is nothing to fill in. A flat PDF can still be typed on: open Edit PDF and use its Add text tool to place text anywhere on the page.
What does "Lock the answers so they cannot be changed" do?
It turns your answers into part of the page, so nobody can change them in a PDF reader. Leave it off and the form stays fillable in any PDF reader, which suits a form that someone else still has to complete or correct.
Can I type in Hindi, Chinese or another script?
Yes. If the form’s own font cannot show your letters, the answers are still kept, and PDF readers draw them with their own fonts. Such a form is not locked, even if you chose to lock it, and the page tells you so.
Can I sign the form after filling it in?
Yes. Download the filled PDF, then open it in Sign PDF to draw, type or add your signature and a date. Signature and push-button fields on the form itself are left as they are.
Is it private to fill in a PDF form here?
Yes. The form is opened and filled in your browser tab, on your device. Nothing is uploaded, PlumPDF does not store your answers, and there is no account. Close the tab and it is gone.
