How to use SVG to PNG

  1. Add SVG files

How an SVG is turned into pixels

An SVG describes shapes, not pixels, so it has no fixed resolution. To make a PNG, PlumPDF reads the width and height the SVG declares, or its viewBox if it has none, multiplies them by the size you pick, and asks your browser to draw the drawing at exactly that size.

Because the drawing is done by the browser's image renderer, scripts inside the SVG do not run and external files and web fonts are not fetched. That keeps the conversion safe, but text set in an unavailable font will use a fallback. Gradients, clipping, masks and transparency render as they would on a web page.

Choose 2x or 4x for icons and logos that will be shown on phones and high-density screens. Very large results are limited to 40 megapixels. Nothing is uploaded.

Questions about SVG to PNG

What size will the PNG be?

The SVG's own width and height, multiplied by the size you choose. An SVG that declares 120 by 40 becomes 240 by 80 pixels at 2x. If the SVG has only a viewBox, its numbers are used as the size.

Is the background transparent?

Yes. Anything the SVG does not paint stays transparent in the PNG. If you need a solid background, convert to JPG with the Image converter, which lets you pick the colour.

Why does my text look different?

A browser draws an SVG used as an image in isolation, without loading web fonts or linked files. Text that relies on such a font falls back to a default font. Convert text to outlines in your drawing program for exact results.

Can I convert several SVG files to PNG at once?

Yes. Add up to 50 images, press Convert, and each one becomes its own PNG file. Download them one at a time, or press "Download all (.zip)" to get one zip file. The zip is made in your browser too.

Is it safe to convert SVG to PNG online?

With PlumPDF the images never leave your device. The conversion runs inside your browser tab, nothing is uploaded, and closing the tab discards everything. You can check by turning off your internet connection after the page loads and converting anyway.
