How to use Image Converter

  1. Add your images

Click Select images, drop them on the page, or paste with Ctrl/Cmd+V. Up to 50 at a time.

  2. Choose the format

Pick JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF or ICO. Set the quality for JPG, WEBP and AVIF, or the icon sizes for ICO.

  3. Convert and download

Press Convert. Download each file, or all of them as one zip.

How the conversion works

Each image is decoded by your browser into plain pixels, the same way it would be shown on a page. Photos with an EXIF rotation tag are turned upright at this point. SVG files are drawn at their own size or larger, and GIF animations contribute their first frame.

The pixels are then written in the format you picked. JPG, PNG and, in most browsers, WEBP are written by the browser itself. AVIF, and WEBP in Safari, are written by encoders that run in your browser and are loaded from PlumPDF only when you need them. ICO files are put together by PlumPDF from PNG images at each size you tick.

Nothing else comes along: the new files carry no EXIF data, GPS position or camera details, and embedded colour profiles are converted to standard sRGB when the browser decodes the image.

Questions about Image Converter

Which formats can I convert between?

You can open JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, SVG and HEIC images, and save them as JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF or ICO. GIF animations give their first frame. SVG is rendered to pixels at its own size, or at 2x or 4x if you choose.

What does the quality setting do?

It controls how hard JPG, WEBP and AVIF compress the picture. Lower numbers make smaller files with more visible artefacts. For photos, JPG at 85 to 92 and WEBP at 80 to 90 are hard to tell from the original; AVIF looks good from about 50. PNG and ICO are lossless and have no quality setting.

What happens to transparency when I convert to JPG?

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background colour. It is white unless you pick another. PNG, WEBP, AVIF and ICO keep transparency.

Does the converted image keep its EXIF data?

No. The new file contains only the picture: camera model, date, GPS location and other EXIF fields are not copied. Photos that were stored sideways with a rotation tag are turned upright first, so they still display the right way round.

Can I convert HEIC photos from an iPhone?

Yes. Safari decodes HEIC itself. In other browsers PlumPDF loads a HEIC decoder the first time you add a HEIC file (about 1.5 MB, then kept for offline use). It still runs on your device.

Why does converting to AVIF take longer?

AVIF squeezes images much harder than JPG, and that takes work. PlumPDF runs the AVIF encoder in your browser, so a large photo can take several seconds on a laptop and longer on a phone. The other formats are close to instant.

Is it safe to convert images online?

With PlumPDF the images never leave your device. The conversion runs inside your browser tab, nothing is uploaded, and closing the tab discards everything. You can check by turning off your internet connection after the page loads and converting anyway.
