About the WEBP output
Pages are drawn onto a white canvas and encoded by your browser as WEBP at quality 92. The encoder is your browser's own, so the exact file size can differ between browsers.
Image dimensions follow the DPI setting: Standard (150 DPI) gives roughly 1240 by 1754 pixels for an A4 page, High (300 DPI) doubles that, and Small (72 DPI) gives about 595 by 842. The long side is capped at 5000 pixels.
As with the other image outputs, you get pictures of the pages. Text is not selectable and links are gone. Pages are flattened onto white, so there is no transparency in the result.
Page order is kept in the file names (page-1, page-2 and so on), which makes the zip easy to sort.
Questions about PDF to WEBP
Why would I want WEBP instead of JPG or PNG?
For use on websites. WEBP is generally smaller than JPG or PNG for the same visual quality, so pages load faster. If you plan to open the images in older software or print them, JPG or PNG are safer.
Which browsers can save WEBP?
Chrome, Edge and Firefox can. Safari does not encode WEBP from a canvas in all versions; in that case the browser quietly gives a PNG instead, and PlumPDF names the file accordingly. If you need a guaranteed format, use PDF to PNG or PDF to JPG.
How do I get a sharper or smaller image?
Use the quality setting. Standard renders at 150 DPI, which suits screens and most sharing. High renders at 300 DPI, good for printing or zooming in, with bigger files. Small renders at 72 DPI for thumbnails. The longest side is capped at 5000 pixels whatever you choose.
Can I convert several PDFs at once?
Yes. Add up to 50 PDFs of up to 100 MB each; they are converted one after another, and every page becomes its own image. A "Download all (.zip)" button saves everything in one go, or you can download single pages. If one PDF cannot be read, it is listed and the others still convert.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
Not directly. PlumPDF asks for the password to be removed first. If you know it, Unlock PDF saves an unlocked copy in your browser; convert that copy instead.
Is it safe to convert PDF to WEBP online?
With PlumPDF, yes: your PDF is never uploaded. The pages are drawn locally, inside your browser tab. Nothing is stored, and closing the tab discards the results.
