When PNG is the better choice
Graphics saved from websites, such as logos, icons and product cut-outs, are often WEBP files with a transparent background. If you need to edit them or place them in a document, PNG is the safer format: almost every program reads it, and it keeps transparency exactly.
PlumPDF decodes the WEBP with your browser and writes the pixels to a PNG without any compression loss. The alpha channel, which stores how transparent each pixel is, comes along unchanged, so soft edges and shadows stay smooth.
Animated WEBP files give their first frame, since a PNG is a single still image. The PNG will usually be bigger than the WEBP. If you want a small file for the web again later, the PNG to WEBP converter goes the other way.
Questions about WEBP to PNG
Is the transparent background kept?
Yes. PNG supports full transparency, so the see-through parts of the WEBP stay see-through in the PNG.
Is WEBP to PNG lossless?
The PNG stores exactly the pixels your browser decodes from the WEBP, with no further loss. If the WEBP was saved with lossy compression, that earlier loss stays; conversion cannot undo it.
Why is the PNG larger than the WEBP?
WEBP is one of the most efficient formats, especially in its lossy mode. PNG is lossless and less compact, so the PNG is often two to five times larger.
Can I convert several WEBP files to PNG at once?
Yes. Add up to 50 images, press Convert, and each one becomes its own PNG file. Download them one at a time, or press "Download all (.zip)" to get one zip file. The zip is made in your browser too.
Is it safe to convert WEBP to PNG online?
