WEBP to JPG, for apps that need it

This tool converts WEBP images to JPG in your browser. WEBP is common on websites but some apps, printers and upload forms still refuse it; a JPG works everywhere. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use WEBP to JPG

  1. Add WEBP files

Click Select WEBP images or drop them on the page. Up to 50 at once.

  2. Check the quality

Quality 90 keeps the picture looking the same. Transparent areas become white unless you pick a colour.

  3. Convert and download

Press Convert to JPG, then save the files one by one or as a zip.

Why convert WEBP to JPG

WEBP was designed by Google as a smaller replacement for JPG and PNG on the web, and today every major browser displays it. Outside the browser the picture is less even: older photo viewers, some versions of Office, printing kiosks and many upload forms still expect JPG.

This converter asks your browser to decode the WEBP, then writes the pixels as a standard baseline JPG. Transparent areas, which WEBP allows and JPG does not, are filled with white or a colour you choose. Animated WEBP files give their first frame.

The result opens in any program that handles photos. Expect it to be a little larger than the WEBP it came from; that is the price of the older format. Nothing is uploaded, and no metadata is copied.

Questions about WEBP to JPG

Why do images I save from websites end up as WEBP?

Many sites serve WEBP because it is smaller than JPG at the same quality, which makes pages load faster. Your browser saves the file in the format it received. Converting it to JPG makes it usable in older software.

Will the JPG look worse than the WEBP?

At the default quality of 90 the difference is very hard to see. The JPG will usually be somewhat larger than the WEBP, because JPG compresses less efficiently.

What about animated WEBP files?

Only the first frame is converted. JPG is a still image format, so an animation cannot be kept.

Can I convert several WEBP files to JPG at once?

Yes. Add up to 50 images, press Convert, and each one becomes its own JPG file. Download them one at a time, or press "Download all (.zip)" to get one zip file. The zip is made in your browser too.

Does the converted image keep its EXIF data?

No. The new file contains only the picture: camera model, date, GPS location and other EXIF fields are not copied. Photos that were stored sideways with a rotation tag are turned upright first, so they still display the right way round.

Is it safe to convert WEBP to JPG online?

With PlumPDF the images never leave your device. The conversion runs inside your browser tab, nothing is uploaded, and closing the tab discards everything. You can check by turning off your internet connection after the page loads and converting anyway.
