Open HEIC to JPG

Step by step

  1. Open HEIC to JPG. Go to the HEIC to JPG page on PlumPDF. No account and nothing to install.
  2. Add your HEIC photos. Click Select HEIC images, or drop the photos on the page. Up to 50 at once.
  3. Check the quality. Quality 90 keeps photos looking the same. Lower it if you want smaller files.
  4. Convert and download. Press Convert to JPG and save the photos one by one, or all of them as a zip.

Why do iPhone photos come out as HEIC?

HEIC is a photo format that an iPhone uses by default because it makes files roughly half the size of JPG for the same picture. The catch is support: many computers, websites, forms and older programs cannot open it. JPG opens almost everywhere, which is why people convert.

What does the conversion do?

Each photo is decoded and saved as a JPG at the quality you choose. Rotation is applied, so portrait photos stay portrait. Wide-colour photos are mapped to standard sRGB, which almost every screen expects.

Some browsers can decode HEIC themselves. Others load a small decoder from PlumPDF the first time you add a photo, about 1.5 MB, and keep it for later. It runs on your device.

What do you lose?

A few things are different in the JPG, and it is worth knowing before you delete any originals:

  • Location, date and camera details stored in the HEIC are not copied across. That is safer for sharing, but keep the originals if you rely on them.
  • Only the main image is converted. The video part of a Live Photo is a separate file and is not touched.
  • JPG is a lossy format, so each save at a lower quality gives up some fine detail.

Why convert in the browser?

Phone photos are personal: family, documents you photographed, places. Converting them on your own device means they are not copied to a server just to change the file type, and a batch of large photos does not have to be uploaded first.

Questions

Will the JPG look worse than the HEIC?

At Quality 90 the difference is hard to see on screen. Lower the quality only if you need smaller files.

Can I change the iPhone to take JPG photos instead?

Yes, the camera format can be changed in the iPhone's settings, but photos you have already taken stay HEIC until you convert them.

Can I put the photos into a PDF?

Yes. Convert them first, then use JPG to PDF to put them in one document.

Can I convert photos taken in portrait?

Yes. The rotation stored in the HEIC file is applied, so portrait photos stay portrait in the JPG.

Can I convert a whole batch of photos at once?

Yes, up to 50 at a time. Each photo is converted in turn, and you can save them one by one or all together as a zip. For a very large camera roll, convert in a few rounds so your browser does not run short of memory, especially on a phone.
