How to make a passport-size photo at home

Step by step

1. Take a plain photo. Stand in front of a plain light wall in even light and look straight at the camera.
2. Add your photo. Tap Select a photo or drop the photo on the page. Use Rotate if it is sideways.
3. Choose a size and fit your face. Pick the photo size, then drag the crop box so your face sits inside the oval with the centre line between your eyes.
4. Download both files. Press Make passport photos. Choose the sheet paper and JPG or PDF, then download the photo and the sheet.

Which photo sizes can I make?

Choose from these sizes, or type a custom size in millimetres:

• 35 × 45 mm
• 2 × 2 in
• 50 × 70 mm
• 33 × 48 mm
• 35 × 35 mm
• 51 × 51 mm

What do I get when I press the button?

Two files. The first is the single photo as a JPG at 300 DPI. The second is a print sheet with as many copies as fit on 4 × 6 in photo paper, A4 or US Letter, with cutting lines, saved as a JPG or a PDF. Print at 100% so the size stays correct.

Can I change the background?

Yes. The Background option can make it white or light blue. A model that finds the person runs on your device and replaces everything behind them. The first time, it downloads once (16 MB). A plain light wall in even light still gives the cleanest result.

Can I add my name and date under the photo?

Turn on "Add name and date under the photo" to add a white strip with your name and a date, which some forms ask for. The date starts as today and you can change it. There is also an optional thin black border, off unless you turn it on.

Honest limits

The tool does not check your photo against any official rules. Background colour, expression and glasses rules vary, so read the requirements for your application before you submit or print. It crops and lays out the photo, and it cannot fix poor light or a face that is turned away.
