How to split a PDF or keep only some pages

Step by step

1. Open Split PDF. Go to the Split PDF page. There is no sign-up and nothing to install.
2. Add your PDF. Drop the PDF on the box. Thumbnails of its pages appear.
3. Choose how to split. Pick "Every page", "Custom ranges" such as 1-3, 5, 8-10, or "Every N pages".
4. Split and download. Press Split PDF. Several files come as a zip, and you can also download them one by one.

What is the difference between splitting and extracting?

Split cuts a PDF into several files. Extract PDF Pages puts all the pages you pick into one new PDF. To keep pages 1 to 3 and page 5 together in a single file, use Extract PDF Pages. Tap the pages to keep, or type a range such as 2-4, 9.

How do I write page ranges?

Separate ranges with commas. "1-3, 5, 8-10" makes three PDFs: one with pages 1 to 3, one with page 5 and one with pages 8 to 10. Spaces do not matter. Pages outside the document, backwards ranges like 5-2 and stray characters are flagged with a message.

How do I split a PDF into equal parts?

Choose "Every N pages" and enter N. A 10-page PDF with chunks of 4 gives files of 4, 4 and 2 pages. The last file holds whatever is left over.

Will the pages lose quality?

No. Splitting copies pages into new documents without redrawing them, so text, images and page settings stay as they were. Your original file is not changed.

Honest limits

Document-level extras such as bookmarks and form fields are not carried into the new files. Several PDFs can be split at once, up to 50, but Extract PDF Pages takes one PDF at a time. To change the page order afterwards, use Organize PDF.
