How to use Image to Text

  1. Choose your images

Press Select images and pick one or more photos, screenshots or scans. JPG, PNG, WEBP and iPhone HEIC photos all work.

  2. Pick the language

Choose the language of the text. If it also has English words, tick the box so both are read.

  3. Copy the text

Press Get the text. Fix anything in the box if you need to, then press Copy text or Save as .txt.

How the text is read

Each image is turned upright, scaled to a size the reader works best with, and read line by line. The result keeps the line breaks of the picture, so lists, addresses and receipts stay readable.

The reader and its language data come from PlumPDF the first time you use a language and then stay in your browser, so later images are read faster, even without a connection. Nothing about your images or their text is sent anywhere.

For the cleanest text, photograph the page flat and straight on, in daylight, and crop away the table around it. Small or blurred writing, busy backgrounds and curved pages are harder to read, so check the box and correct any wrong word before you copy it.

Questions about Image to Text

How do I copy text from an image?

Choose the image, pick the language of its text and press Get the text. The words appear in a box where you can correct them, then copy them with one press or save them as a .txt file.

Which languages can it read?

English, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Arabic and Chinese (Simplified). The first time, your browser downloads the reader and that language once, then it works faster and even offline.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The text is read on your own device, inside your browser tab. Your pictures and the text never leave it, which matters for ID cards, bills and private chats.

Can it read handwriting?

Clear, neat handwriting sometimes works, but the reader is made for printed and typed text. For the best result, use a sharp photo taken straight on, in good light, with the text filling most of the picture.

Can I get the text of several images at once?

Yes. Add several images and they are read in order. The text of each one comes under its file name, all in one box, ready to copy or save.

What about a scanned PDF?

Use OCR PDF. It reads every page of a scanned PDF and gives you a searchable PDF plus a text file.
