How to use Remove Audio from Video

Why removing the sound is quick

A video file keeps its picture and its sound as separate tracks side by side. Removing the sound means writing a new MP4 with only the picture track in it, and when the picture is already H.264, as on almost every phone, it is copied byte for byte without being decoded or made again.

That is why even a long video is done in moments and looks exactly like the original. A video in another format, such as a WEBM screen recording, is made into H.264 at high quality so it plays everywhere.

Everything happens in your browser, so the video, and the sound you are removing, never leave your device.

How do I remove the sound from a video?

Choose the video and press Remove the sound, then download the MP4. The whole sound track is taken out; the picture stays the same.

Does the picture lose quality?

No, for MP4 videos in the common H.264 format, which most phones record: the picture is copied exactly. Other formats are made into H.264 at high quality.

Can I keep the sound as a separate file?

Yes. Use Video to MP3 on the same video to save its sound as an MP3 before or after you remove it here.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The sound is removed on your own device, inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Can I remove only part of the sound?

Not here: the whole sound track is removed. To keep a part of a video, cut it first with Trim Video.
