Rotate a video, the right way up everywhere

A video recorded with the phone held the wrong way plays sideways or upside down. Choose it, pick a quarter turn left or right or a half turn, and get an MP4 that shows the right way up on every phone, computer and website. It runs in your browser, so your video never leaves your device.

Turned in the picture, not just labelled

Some tools rotate a video by adding a small note to the file saying which way up it is. Many players respect that note, but some websites, older computers and editing apps ignore it, and the video shows sideways again.

This tool turns the picture itself: every frame is decoded, turned and made again as H.264 at a high quality setting, and the sound is kept. The result looks the same everywhere, because there is nothing left for a player to ignore.

The work happens in your browser, using your device's video hardware where it has it, so the video is never uploaded.

Questions about Rotate Video

How do I rotate a video?

Choose the video, pick the turn and press Rotate video. The new MP4 shows the right way up, with its sound.

Which turn do I need?

If the top of the picture is on the left, turn it to the right. If it is on the right, turn it to the left. If it is upside down, pick the half turn.

Will it stay rotated on WhatsApp and websites?

Yes. The turn is made in the picture itself, not as a note in the file that some players and websites ignore, so it shows the same everywhere.

Does rotating lower the quality?

The picture has to be made again to turn it, at a high quality setting, so it looks the same to the eye. The sound is kept.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is turned on your own device, inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent anywhere.
