Trim a video, keep just the part you want

Choose a video, type the second the part you want starts and ends, and get just that part as an MP4. Wherever the cut allows, the picture and sound are copied as they are, so it is quick and loses no quality. It runs in your browser, so your video never leaves your device.

Why trimming here is quick and keeps the quality

A video is stored as a few full pictures, a second or two apart, and between them only the changes. When your video is an H.264 MP4, the tool keeps the full picture just before your start, copies everything up to your end exactly as it was, and writes a new MP4 around it. Nothing is made again, so a long video is trimmed in moments and looks exactly like the original.

When the video is in another format, such as a WEBM from a screen recorder, the part you chose is made into H.264 and AAC, the MP4 that every phone, computer and website plays.

Everything happens on your device, inside your browser tab, so the video is never uploaded.

Questions about Trim Video

How do I cut part of a video?

Choose the video, type the start and end of the part you want in seconds, and press Trim video. You get an MP4 of just that part, ready to send or post.

Does trimming lower the quality?

Usually not. When the video is an MP4 in the common H.264 format, the picture and sound are copied exactly, not made again. Other kinds of video, such as WEBM, are converted to MP4 at good quality.

Why does my clip start a little earlier than I typed?

To copy the picture without making it again, a cut has to begin on one of the video's full frames, which come every second or two. The part you get can therefore start slightly before the second you typed, never after it.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is cut on your own device, inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent anywhere, so family and private videos stay private.

Can I make the trimmed video smaller too?

Yes. After trimming, open Compress Video with the new MP4 and type the size you need, for example 16 MB for WhatsApp or 25 MB for email.
