How to use MP3 Cutter
Choose a song or video
Press Select a song or video and pick an MP3, M4A, WAV or a video. The first 30 seconds are chosen for you, a good length for a ringtone.
Type the part to keep
Type the second it starts in From and the second it ends in To, and pick the sound quality. The page shows how long the MP3 will be.
Cut and download
Press Cut MP3 and download it. Use Change the part to cut another piece of the same song.
How the part becomes an MP3
The file is read from the second you choose to the second it should end. Only that stretch of sound is decoded, so even a long recording is cut quickly, and the picture of a video is skipped altogether.
The sound is then encoded as an MP3 at the bitrate you pick, keeping its stereo. The MP3 encoder comes with the page the first time you use it, because browsers have none of their own, and then works offline.
For a ringtone, 20 to 30 seconds from the chorus usually works best, and 192 kbps keeps it clear on a phone speaker. Everything happens on your device, inside your browser tab, so your songs and recordings are never uploaded.
Questions about MP3 Cutter
How do I make a ringtone from a song?
Choose the song, type the start and end of the part you like (about 20 to 30 seconds works well), and press Cut MP3. Copy the MP3 to your phone and choose it as the ringtone in your sound settings.
Which files can I cut?
MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, AAC and FLAC sound files, and the sound of MP4, MOV and WEBM videos. The result is always an MP3, which every phone and music player plays.
Does cutting lower the quality?
The part is saved as a new MP3 at the quality you choose: 192 kbps sounds very good, and 320 kbps is the best MP3 can do. It cannot add quality the original did not have.
Is my song uploaded?
No. The song is cut on your own device, inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Can I cut a part of a video and keep the picture?
Yes, with Trim Video. MP3 Cutter keeps only the sound; Trim Video keeps the picture and sound of the part you choose, as an MP4.
